Divided By Design

Formed in late 2017, the trio met whilst studying music in Leeds. Budding friendships quickly turned musical and they began playing together only weeks after meeting. As the jam sessions became more frequent things began to get more serious. New material was written and a name agreed upon.  Well into 2018, through many hours of playing together week-in week-out, the band had painstakingly honed both their sound and performance behind closed doors. Almost a year on, Divided By Design finally unveiled their hard work to the public  – dates across Leeds and Bradford went down a storm, with the band then proceeding to enter the studio for the recording of their debut single ‘Pillara’!! Exciting things were on the horizon.

The Band took their new found momentum into 2019!! Pillara and the accompanying release headliner were hugely succesful. Further trips to Bradford and Manchester, as well as more shows in Leeds, cemented them as ‘Ones to watch’ on the Independent metal scene.

All was going well for the boys in Divided by Design and their second single ‘The Catalyst’ was streamed around the world. Soon after this though, the band would be forced into a Line-up change. Dunn left the band to focus on his personal life, and after a careful period of consideration Tom Chambers was the man chosen to be his successor. Bringing with him an infectious enthusiasm, Chambers also brought his audio production skills to the table and this fired Divided by Design to new levels. Alongside releasing their 3rd Single ‘Regenerate’ They played a set at the ‘Modern Misery All-day Metal Festival’ at Leeds, Key Club – a particularly important venue in the local scene. This rounded off a strong second year for the Band!!

Hitting the new year hard, shows were played in Manchester, Sheffield, Lincoln and London. With an exciting return to The Key Club, Leeds as part of an LCOM Metal event!

On February 9th Divided by Design embarked on a small UK tour, playing busy shows in Glasgow and Newcastle before finishing up at Santiago’s Leeds, unveiling release number 4 – ‘Exulansis’!! The song was soon to be featured on playlists: ‘Djent 2020’ and ‘Progressive Metal & Mathrock’, acclaimed for its jazz-metal guitar fusion.

By now the recording process had started to take place for an epic conceptual work that had been a long time in the making…
